A relief cabby who molested a girl below six about 14 years ago was jailed for 20 months and ordered to be given six strokes of the cane on Tuesday.
Peter Lee Chee Soon, 46, had pleaded guilty to rubbing himself on the girl at his flat in Yishun sometime between 1997 and June 1998.
The court heard that the parents of the girl, then about five or six, had entrusted the victim and her older brother by about a year to his care as they felt he had an affinity with children and believed that he was trustworthy.
Lee would take the children out. The parents would also leave their two children in his care at his home. On a day between January 1997 and June 1998, Lee took the children to his home. He led the victim to his bedroom and sexually abused her.

Naughty nurses-to-be skip class for sex party
Four student nurses who skipped lectures were caught at a wild sex party with their boyfriends at a dormitory of their private college in Klang.
The orgy ended when the college's administration sent a team to gatecrash the party at about 7am on Tuesday, Harian Metro reported.
Two of the girls were half-naked while four men were found hiding in a toilet.
A source said the raid came after several students and lecturers complained to the management about the four would-be-nurses and their antics over the past week.
"One complaint was that the girls often brought men to the dormitory, causing discomfort to other students."
The four student nurses and their partners were brought to the Bandar Baru Klang police station where they were questioned.
The four men were released.
The source said the management was conducting an investi- gation into the possibility that the girls involved had turned their dormitory room into a sex den.

Viet wife nearly bites off man's ear for trying to have sex with her
A 61-year-old taxi driver nearly had his ear bitten off by his new Vietnamese wife when he tried to have sex with her.
The 29-year-old also splashed a bottle of medicated oil in his eyes and threatened to cut off his private parts with a pair of scissors before running away.
Left injured, heartbroken and alone, Mr Chin Weng Seng, who had used up his savings for a RM18,000 (S$7,346) bride from a matchmaking agency, tried to get a replacement.
'I asked the agency to get me another wife who was less aggressive, but they asked for more money,' he said, adding that the agency also refused to give him a refund.

A mother of seven not only offers sex services, but has also apparently 'sold off' four of her children to make ends meet.
Harian Metro reported that the 37-year-old single mother, who was facing financial difficulties in raising her family, had even imparted her 'knowledge' in the flesh trade to her 16-year-old daughter.
Quoting sources, the daily said the mother from Chukai, Terengganu, had also become a drug addict and led her daughter into the habit as well.
'As a short cut to get their fix, the mother and daughter would accept drugs as a form of payment after offering sexual services,' a source said.

Man, 22, accused of sexual offences with underaged girl
A full-time national serviceman was charged in court on Wednesday with committing an obscene act on a child and having sex with the underage girl.
The 22-year-old allegedly performed oral sex on the 14-year-old girl in a Jurong East flat on May 23, 2008.
He is also said to have had sex with her on three occasions between 2008 and 2009, and to have threatened to post her nude photographs online.
A pre-trial conference is scheduled for Nov 14.
