Teen gets probation for oral sex with girl

An unemployed youth who has borderline intelligence was sentenced to 21 months' probation on Tuesday for making a 14-year-old girl perform oral sex on him about four years ago.

The 17-year-old was 14 at the time of the offence at a staircase landing in Bukit Batok West Avenue 6 in March or April 2008. He cannot be named as there is a gag order.

A Community Court heard that he, his three male friends then aged 12 to 15, the victim and her female friend, then 15, used to hang out at HDB void decks in Bukit Batok after school to chat and spend time together. The accused's accomplice, the 14-year-old, used to frequent a Chinese temple and allegedly saw people possessed by 'Chinese gods'. He told his friends about what he had seen at the temple during the Chinese New Year in February 2008.

When he heard that the 12-year-old's efforts to befriend the victim had been rejected, the 14-year-old hatched a plan. He suggested to the trio that they trick the victim by pretending to be possessed to make her listen to them and do their bidding.

Between February and April 2008, the accused and his three accomplices pretended to be possessed by gods and ghosts to try and deceive and frighten the victim and her friend into complying with their instructions.

They intentionally duped her and her friend into performing various sexual acts on them.

Sometime in March or April that year, the six met at a staircase landing in Bukit Batok West Avenue 6. The victim's friend was sent away to get some money. The teens then pretended to be possessed and made the victim fellate each of them.

The juvenile has been sentenced to 21 months probation with three months' stay at the Boys' Home. The 14-year-old, who is now 17, and an 18-year-old are awaiting to be sentenced.

NSF got underage girlfriend pregnant again after getting out of jail

He had sex with his 14-year-old girlfriend, got her pregnant and was jailed for four weeks when he could not pay his fine.

But within a month of getting out of jail, he got the same girl pregnant again. Now 16, she has two sons by him and her family is helping her raise them.

The youth, now 22 and a full-time national serviceman, was sentenced to four months' jail on Monday for his second offence of having sex with a minor. He cannot be named to protect the girl's identity.

The court heard that they met in 2009, when he was 20 and she was 14. They had sex and she became pregnant.

She gave birth to a baby boy in December 2010, when she was 15.

He was fined $4,000 for having sex with her, and another similar charge was taken into consideration. He could not pay the fine, so he went to jail.

After he was released from prison in February last year, he contacted the girl. The court heard that they were still in a relationship then.

Within that month, he took the girl to his Yishun flat when no one was home and they had sex.

The girl became pregnant again and in November last year, gave birth to their second baby.

The court heard that the youth had previously been convicted of theft in 2004, when he was a minor. He was placed on probation, but was later sent to the Reformative Training Centre after breaching the terms of his probation.

Addressing the court through an interpreter, the youth, who was not represented by a lawyer, said he was sorry and pleaded for leniency.

He said that he had to support the children and his mother.

Although he was no longer in touch with the girl, he had been giving her money for the children through her mother, he added.

District Judge Wong Choon Ning said the youth had been expected to cherish the chance he was given in the earlier sentencing, when he was fined.

But she added that she had taken into account his young age in sentencing him.

For having sex with a minor, he could have been jailed for up to 10 years and fined.

Man jailed, caned for molesting woman

SINGAPORE: A 31-year-old woman agreed to accompany a man she met online to a budget hotel, after he reassured her they were just going there to "kiss".

Little did she know that 37-year-old Ng Han Tong had more in mind, including sex.

For that, the former IT system analyst, was sentenced to three years jail and six strokes of the cane, after he pleaded guilty on Wednesday to a reduced charge of aggravated molest.

Ng, who is married, got to know the woman through online social networking site Facebook in January 2010.

The court heard that they started exchanging explicit chats and Ng was under the impression she was "willing to have sex with a male friend that she was comfortable with."

Two months later on March 5, 2010, Ng suggested going to a hotel to "kiss" - which the woman agreed to.

After having drinks at a pub, they proceeded to Hotel 81 at Jiak Chuan Road, where they kissed and Ng started to undress her, despite attempts to push him away. Ng then proceeded to have unprotected sex with her.

The woman left the hotel angry and told her friends the next day that she had been raped. A police report was made.

Ng's lawyer, Mr R S Wijaya, said Ng had "acted in a moment of folly" and assumed the woman was "comfortable to have sex". However, Deputy Public Prosecutor Sabrina Choo disputed this, saying her agreeing to the kiss should not be inferred as consent to have sex.

A psychiatric report revealed Ng suffered from an adjustment disorder and was stressed over the inability to conceive with his wife.

The court heard Ng coped with these tendencies in a "dysfunctional way" such as drinking and contacting women he knew online and in pubs.

For his offence, Ng could have been sentenced up to ten years jail and caned.

Woman placed on probation for having sex with father

SINGAPORE: A 25-year-old woman has been placed on probation of one year for having sex with her own father, in what is believed to be Singapore's first consensual incest case.

The woman, who's now living with her maternal aunt, has also been ordered to undergo therapy sessions with a psychiatrist.

For the same offence, her father, who was a plumber, was sentenced to three years' jail in January last year.

Both cannot be named to protect the woman's identity.

The court heard that she and her father had been drinking at coffeeshops with his friends since 2006.

This developed into a sexual relationship which saw the woman, who was then 20 years old, kissing and hugging her father.

Their physical intimacy escalated to touching each others' private parts when they were alone at home.

They eventually had sex about two years later - in April 2008 - after a drinking session.

On that night, both father and daughter were in the bedroom when an argument broke out between them.

She apologised and gave her father a hug at his request.

They then undressed, and engaged in petting and kissing.

The father became sexually aroused and had sex with his daughter with her consent.

The court heard that the woman was afraid that her father may have impregnated her.

The pair again had another argument over a separate matter about a week later.

The woman then sent an SMS to her close friend to contact the police.

She told her friend that her father had been sexually touching her for some time and that she did not like it.

Her friend then made a police report that the woman's father was abusing her.

When police officers arrived at the flat, the woman alleged that her father had molested her, leading to his arrest.

Those convicted of incest can be jailed up to five years.

Rape ordeal for 24-year-old trainee

SHAH ALAM: It was like any other working day for a 24-year-old trainee of Lembaga Tabung Haji (LTH), but this time around she was robbed and raped before being left at a commuter station at Batu 3 in Subang Jaya.

Her perpetrators drove her to a house in the early hours of the morning, blindfolded her and subjected her to an ordeal when they ripped off her clothes and made her pose naked for pictures.

It is learnt that the woman would park her car and use the commuter train to get to work in the city.

The incident took place when she parked her car in the car park of the Section 19, Shah Alam commuter station at about 6am.

According to a police spokesman, when she was about to get out of her car, she noticed another car pulling up next to hers.

One of the two suspects, armed with a parang, rushed to her car and dragged her out from the front passenger seat after threatening to kill her if she did not give in to their demands.

The men pulled off her headscarf and blindfolded her when she did did not have enough money on her.

"They dragged her into their car and drove off to a house after ditching their initial plan to withdraw her money from the nearest bank," the spokesman said.

They took her to a house where she later learnt of a third suspect who was on his way to rape her after overhearing their phone conversation.

It is believed one of the suspects was desperate for money and owed RM2,000 to a loan shark.

Ten minutes later, still blindfolded, she was raped and forced to pose naked for pictures taken with the perpetrator's handphone.

The woman was later made to call her boyfriend to bank in some money into her account.

The trio later took her to a bank to withdraw RM500 before abandoning her at the commuter station.

Shah Alam police chief ACP Zahedi Ayob said police had identified the suspects and were looking for them.

The case is being investigated under Section 376 and 395 of Penal Code for rape and gang robbery.

Teacher Jailed 8 years for sexual acts

A former secondary school teacher was sentenced to eight years in jail for having sex with his student.

The judge said the teacher, now 41 and unemployed, had abused his position in the school when he was expected to care for and protect his students.

The man had also committed some of the offences in activity rooms in the school - he even installed a latch on the inside of the door to ensure that he would not be discovered.

The Straits Times earlier reported that their sexual relationship came to light after the man's wife told the student's mother about her suspicions in April last year. The student's father then lodged a police report. The man's wife had discovered intimate text messages to the student and another ex-student while she was using his mobile phone to take pictures of their newly-born second child in January 2010.

The teacher and student first had sex in school sometime during November of December 2007, before school began at 7.30am. The teacher, already married with a child, had bought gifts for the student and praised her for being pretty while on a school trip to Korea before that. The girl then agreed to be his girlfriend. He also tutored her for free. He also lied to her that he was in an unhappy marriage and his wife was filing for divorce.

They had sex on other occasions after that, even inside his car at a car park in Upper Seletar Reservoir Park.

The relationship between the man and the student continued throughout 2009, even though the school received a complaint about inappropriate behaviour between them during a school trip to the United States in 2008.

But she broke off the relationship when she found out that the man's wife had a second child and that he was also having sex with the ex-student.

District judge Jasvender Kaur also noted that the offender had sex with a girl who was below 16 and still a virgin.

The judge said he had clearly taken advantage of the girl's immaturity and vulnerability to satisfy himself.

The man will be allowed to start serving his sentence on January 25 so that he can spend the Lunar New Year with his wife and two daughters.

Man jailed for sex without informing partner of HIV status

An HIV-infected man who had sex with another man without informing the latter of the risk of contracting the infection was jailed for 18 months on Wednesday.

The 27-year-old former engineer had pleaded guilty to engaging in sexual activity with the man, now 37, in an apartment in January 2009.

The defendant, who cannot be named as there is a gag order, was diagnosed with HIV in March 2008. Some time in January 2009, while both were at an apartment, they engaged in oral sex with each other.

Before the sexual activity, the defendant had not informed the victim of the risk of contracting HIV infection from him and getting the latter's voluntary agreement to accept that risk. The court heard that the 37-year-old had contracted HIV but the prosecution could not confirm that the defendant had infected him.

Pleading for leniency, the defendant, who is single, said he realised his mistake. He told the court that he was supporting his sick mother who was on medication. He also said he needed to make some money for his future medical expenses.

Another HIV-infected man, aged 48, has also been convicted of engaging in sex with the same male partner. He will return to court next Thursday to be sentenced.

The maximum punishment is two years' jail and a $5,000 fine .

Ex-teacher jailed 8 years for sex with 14-year-old student

A former secondary school teacher was jailed for eight years on Tuesday by a district court for having sex with a student.

Now 41 years old and unemployed, the man was allowed to start serving sentence on Jan 25 so he can spend Lunar New Year with his wife and two daughters, aged two and four years old.

District Judge Jasvender Kaur increased his bail from $5,000 to $30,000 and ordered that he surrenders his passport to the police.

The judge said that the teacher had abused his position in the school and had 'destroyed the fundamental feeling of safety and protection that teachers entrusted with the care and education of students must provide'.

The court also noted that he committed some of the offences in the co-curricular activities room in the school itself, where he had a latch installed on the inside of the door to ensure his misdeeds would not be uncovered.

Other aggravating factors the judge mentioned in her grounds of decision was the 23-year age difference and that the offender had sex with a girl for a protracted period of 1 1/2 years since late 2007, when she was below 16 and still a virgin.

Said Judge Kaur: 'He is married and a father. He was also having a sexual relationship with a former student at the same time... In my judgement, he clearly took advantage of the girl's immaturity and vulnerability to satisfy... his own sexual satisfaction.'

The man, who cannot be named to prevent the identification of the student, pleaded guilty in December 2011.

The case prompted Mr Lim Biow Chuan, Member of Parliament for Mountbatten, to ask in Parliament this month how the Ministry of Education intends to ensure that student-teacher relationships are kept strictly professional, especially with more teachers giving out their mobile-phone numbers and adding their students on social-networking sites.

In reply, Minister of State for Education Lawrence Wong said that proper systems and processes are in place to guide teachers on appropriate behaviour when interacting with students. He also said that teachers here are sufficiently briefed on the expected standard of conduct and the need to maintain proper relations with students.

Teen on 1-year probation for deceiving minor into having sex

A teenager told his girlfriend that they could have unprotected sex as the menthol in the cigarettes he smoked would have killed his sperm. This was just a teenage myth and the 15-year-old girl became pregnant.

On Tuesday, Peter Mark Ng Jia Jun, now a full-time national serviceman, was placed on probation for a year.

He had pleaded guilty in December to having sex with a girl below the age of 16 years in 2010. A district court heard Ng was then 19 years old and unemployed. The girl, 15, was a secondary school student. They got to know each other in early March that year and started going steady soon after. The girl had told Ng that she was turning 16 later that year but this did not stop him from having sex with her.

The first time was in a toilet sometime in March 2010. She had asked him then why he did not use a condom and he told her that he smoked cigarettes and the menthol in them would kill off his sperm. She believed him and they had unprotected sex on two other occasions in Ng's flat in March and April.

She gave birth to a boy last February at KK Women's and Children's Hospital and a paternity test confirmed that it was Ng's child.

The girl, now 17, is studying at a polytechnic and the child is being cared by her family.

Ng's parents also have to place a $5,000 bond to ensure his good behaviour during the probation period.

For having carnal connection with a minor, Ng could have been fined up to $10,000 or jailed up to five years.

Serial paedophile sentenced to 18 years' preventive detention

A serial paedophile, with convictions dating back to 1988, was sentenced to 18 years' preventive detention for performing fellatio on a 11-year-old boy.

Sikendar Sellamarican, 51, committed the offence barely two years after his release from prison in 2008 after serving a 20-year sentence for sodomising a 13-year-old boy in 1994.

In passing sentence on Wednesday, District Judge Mathew Joseph said that Sikendar was a real danger to young boys and should be locked away for a long time.

Sentences for preventive detention - a harsher prison regime designed for repeat offenders that are a danger to society - could be from seven to 20 years with no remission for good behaviour.

Sikendar had pleaded guilty in November to sexually abusing the boy at a building along Syed Alwi Road on two occasions between Jan 1 and May 1, 2010.

He had approached the victim and his friend, then 13 years old, at a playground and offered them food from McDonald's.

They ate while seated outside a shop that had closed for the night.

Sikendar then committed the offence on the boy, who has an IQ of 57. The normal range is 90-110. Meanwhile, the boy's friend, who witnessed the start of the incident, left while the offence was committed.

The victim and the same friend spotted him on May 1 and the friend called the police.

Sikendar was arrested on May 12, 2010.

Molested 16-year-old girl hid naked in forest

He told her that he was taking her to meet his gambling friends in Mandai and drove her into the forested area of Lorong Asrama off Mandai Road one night in September 1996.

There, Tan Leng Hwa, 42, asked the 16-year-old student to be his girlfriend. She turned him down and he molested her. He took away her spectacles leaving the girl unable to see clearly. He pulled off her clothes and caressed her breasts. She managed to break free. Totally nude, she ran into the bushes.

He was unable to find her and drove off. Only then, did she come out. In the utter darkness, she was unable to find her clothes. Covering herself with the pages of a discarded newspaper, she ran to the main road. The driver of the first car she tried to stop ignored her. She then tried to seek help at a gate of an army camp but it was unmanned.

She only managed to stop a taxi more than an hour later. She used his shirt to cover herself for the drive to a police post. A medical checkup later revealed multiple bruises all over her body and she was awarded three days' medical leave.

Tan surrendered himself to police 16 days later and was charged in court in March 1997. He jumped bail two months later and went into hiding.

It is not known when he fled to Malaysia but there he participated in a kidnapping. He and three Malaysian accomplices were arrested in January 2010 and jailed for the offence of wrongful confinement.

Tan, now 58 years old, was extradited to Singapore in July 2011. He pleaded guilty on Tuesday to committing aggravated molest on the student and for jumping bail. He also admitted to stealing a car valued at $60,000 in April 1998. This charge was taken into consideration by District Judge Lee Poh Choo when she sentenced Tan to jail for four years for molest and two months for going into hiding.
