School house mistress guilty of sex offences against boys

A former house mistress at an exclusive school was found guilty today of sex offences against boys in her care.

The woman, 41, whose name has been suppressed by the court, had oral sex and sexual intercourse with six boys aged 11 and 12 over a period of five months last year.

In the NSW District Court today, Judge Anthony Garling rejected the woman's defence that she was not guilty because of mental illness.

However, Judge Garling said that the woman was aware of the wrongness of the acts she was committing against the under-age boys.

He said that she knew the nature of what she was doing and that it was wrong, legally and morally.

Judge Garling found that, over the five-month period between January and July, the woman lived an otherwise normal life and was able to continue working.

The woman, who was married, had not sought other sexual partners, or exhibited behaviour typical of a person in a manic state, Judge Garling said.

The woman, who rocked back and forth in her chair during the judge's statement, was supported in court by family members.

She is on bail and will be sentenced on March 11.
