Man fined $3,000 for molesting

AN UNEMPLOYED man who was found to be suffering from a psychiatric condition got away with a total fine of $3,000 for molesting two women.

Senthilnathan, 41, an accountant by training, pleaded guilty to two charges of outrage of modesty at NTUC FairPrice supermarkets in 2010. He committed the two offences at the Bukit Merah Central supermarket on March 17 and June 21.

In the March incident, he was squatting next to a 27-year-old woman when he stroked her right heel while she was talking to a colleague. Three months later, he was in the same supermarket when he brushed against the buttocks of another 27-year-old woman.

A third charge was considered during his sentencing. His lawyer R. Kalamohan said the father of one had been unemployed since 2009 as he was unable to stay in the same job for long, due to his delusional disorder.

Asking for a fine, counsel told District Judge Low Wee Ping that his client would be going to India with his father to seek treatment and rehabilitation in Madurai in Tamil Nadu.

Senthilnathan could have been jailed for up to two years or fined or caned, or received any of the punishments on each of the two charges.
