NSF got underage girlfriend pregnant again after getting out of jail

He had sex with his 14-year-old girlfriend, got her pregnant and was jailed for four weeks when he could not pay his fine.

But within a month of getting out of jail, he got the same girl pregnant again. Now 16, she has two sons by him and her family is helping her raise them.

The youth, now 22 and a full-time national serviceman, was sentenced to four months' jail on Monday for his second offence of having sex with a minor. He cannot be named to protect the girl's identity.

The court heard that they met in 2009, when he was 20 and she was 14. They had sex and she became pregnant.

She gave birth to a baby boy in December 2010, when she was 15.

He was fined $4,000 for having sex with her, and another similar charge was taken into consideration. He could not pay the fine, so he went to jail.

After he was released from prison in February last year, he contacted the girl. The court heard that they were still in a relationship then.

Within that month, he took the girl to his Yishun flat when no one was home and they had sex.

The girl became pregnant again and in November last year, gave birth to their second baby.

The court heard that the youth had previously been convicted of theft in 2004, when he was a minor. He was placed on probation, but was later sent to the Reformative Training Centre after breaching the terms of his probation.

Addressing the court through an interpreter, the youth, who was not represented by a lawyer, said he was sorry and pleaded for leniency.

He said that he had to support the children and his mother.

Although he was no longer in touch with the girl, he had been giving her money for the children through her mother, he added.

District Judge Wong Choon Ning said the youth had been expected to cherish the chance he was given in the earlier sentencing, when he was fined.

But she added that she had taken into account his young age in sentencing him.

For having sex with a minor, he could have been jailed for up to 10 years and fined.
